Second tranche of documents released on Mauao Landslide website

Following the initial release of information last week on Tauranga City Council’s Mauao Landslide website, a second tranche of documents has been published today.

This tranche contains around four hundred documents, consisting of Mauao land management information and emergency management procedures and documentation. As further material is collated and prepared, it will be progressively added to the website over the coming weeks.

In publishing this information, Council acknowledges the significance of Mauao and the impact this tragedy has had on the families who lost loved ones, tangata whenua, residents, and the wider community.

These documents are being made publicly available as part of Council’s commitment to providing transparent and accessible information to the community and in response to requests received under the Local Government Information Act (LGOIMA).

Consistent with our legal responsibilities under LGOIMA, information is being made available unless there is good reason for withholding it. Where those good reasons exist, we have clearly marked each redaction with the relevant section of LGOIMA. Further details about the principle of availability and the statutory reasons for withholding information under LGOIMA are available on the website.

With multiple active and independent inquiries underway Council will not be making any further comment on the information at this time.
