New sculpture unveiled in Tauranga CBD

After more than 1000 hours of design, mahi and laser-cutting, a new sculpture named Rauhea has been unveiled at a dawn ceremony at Red Square in the Tauranga CBD.

This installation adds yet another drawcard to our city centre, thanks to artist Peata Larkin and the Font Public Art Trust.

Other works in Red Square have included new platform seating, turfed spaces and planters, and a new play pod to keep the kids occupied long enough for parents to enjoy their refreshments.

Councillor Rod Taylor speaking at Rauhea unveiling in Red Square
Life is art and art is life. The great thing about public art is that it's something everyone can experience - and I think the turnout this morning proves that. - Councillor Rod Taylor.
