Tauranga will once again play host to New Zealand’s premier gymnastics event when the 2026 Xtreme Productive Gymnastics Nationals return to Mercury Baypark in the first week of the September school holidays next year, 29 September - 3 October.

The country’s top gymnasts will compete for national titles across aerobics, men’s and women’s artistic, rhythmic, and trampoline - five codes, all under one roof.

Mercury Baypark is one of the few venues in New Zealand able to stage all five championships simultaneously, offering fans a unique opportunity to experience the full spectacle of gymnastics in one place.

From powerful tumbles and daring acrobatics to elegant routines and high-energy performances, it promises a week of edge-of-your-seat sporting entertainment.

Gymnastics New Zealand CEO Andrea Nelson says Tauranga has become a firm favourite for the gymnastics community.

“Our community has told us they love coming to Tauranga and enjoying everything the city and region has to offer during the school holidays. The support we receive here is always outstanding, and Mercury Baypark provides the perfect stage for our athletes to shine.”

Tauranga Mayor, Mahé Drysdale, is looking forward to welcoming this event back to Tauranga next year, after it was last here in 2023.

“It’s fantastic to see the XP Gymnastics Nationals returning to Tauranga in 2026. This is the pinnacle event for gymnastics in New Zealand, and it will be a real privilege to host so many of the country’s top gymnasts, coaches, and supporters here,” Mahé says.

“National competitions like this recognise the incredible skill, discipline, and years of training that these athletes commit to their sport, while also inspiring the next generation of gymnasts to follow in their footsteps. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to Tauranga.”

Tauranga City Council, alongside TECT Community Trust, successfully bid to host the 2026 XP Gymnastics Nationals, bringing this high-calibre event back to the city.

It's supported through the Tauranga Event Fund, which helps attract and grow events that deliver citywide benefits. With nearly 1,000 athletes, 200 coaches and managers, more than 100 volunteers, and thousands of spectators expected, the event will generate valuable visitation for Tauranga. With the event falling in the school holidays, locals will have the chance to attend and experience the competition firsthand.
