Community New Year's Eve celebrations cancelled

Tauranga City Council has made the difficult decision to cancel all five community New Year’s Eve events due to forecast adverse weather conditions.

Weather reports indicate significant rain bands and strong wind gusts during event set-up, with conditions highly likely to continue into Wednesday.

Making the decision today allows our community time to plan alternative New Year’s activities.

Due to the cancellation the planned road closure for The Strand on New Year's Eve will not go ahead.

Fireworks update

Weather permitting, fireworks will hopefully take place from various locations around the city. Tauranga City Council is still aiming to light up the skies at approximately 9.30pm and midnight to welcome the New Year.

The displays are expected to be visible across Mount Maunganui, Pāpāmoa, Matua, the city centre and Waimapu Estuary harbour areas. This means you can enjoy the spectacular from where you’re already celebrating or from a safe elevated vantage point.

Updates will be shared via Tauranga City Council’s Facebook and Instagram channels.

Tauranga City Council wishes everyone a happy and safe New Year.
