Third tranche of documents released on Mauao Landslide website

Tauranga City Council has today published a third tranche of documents on its dedicated Mauao Landslide website in response to requests received under the Local Government Information Act (LGOIMA).

This tranche includes Ngā Poutiriao ō Mauao Board and Mauao Trust Joint Meeting agendas and minutes, and an information sheet on Mauao ownership and governance.

As part of on-going kōrero, the Mauao Trust was notified prior to publication.

Any external parties referenced in published documents are likewise advised ahead of release where contact information is available.

In publishing this information, Council acknowledges the significance of Mauao and the impact this tragedy has had on the families who lost loved ones, tangata whenua, residents, and the wider community.

In recent weeks, Council has published a range of materials, including geotechnical reports, historical landslide records, information on vegetation management and tree removal, visitor data, and relevant council policies concerning emergency management and natural hazards.

These documents are being made publicly available as part of Council’s commitment to providing transparent and accessible information to the community.

Consistent with our legal responsibilities under LGOIMA, information is being made available unless there is good reason for withholding it. Where those good reasons exist, we have clearly marked each redaction with the relevant section of LGOIMA. Further details about the principle of availability and the statutory reasons for withholding information under LGOIMA are available on the website.

With multiple active and independent inquiries underway Council will not be making any further comment on the information at this time.
