Getting fit while enjoying the Pāpāmoa sunshine is now easier than ever with the opening of a new outdoor exercise area at Pāpāmoa Beach Road.

The exercise area opened last week and brings together exercise equipment capable of providing a full body workout while being suitable for a variety of ages and abilities.

  • Overhead press and lateral pulldown
  • Chest press
  • Leg lift and pull up station
  • Dip bench
  • Steppers, including an assisted step with a handrail

Feedback from the community and Sport Bay of Plenty during the planning and design phase helped shape the exercise area, including its location in relation to the road and makeup of the equipment that’s included.

Sport Bay of Plenty Active Communities Team Lead Belinda Muller says there are many benefits to getting active.

“Regular fitness is an important aspect of leading a healthy life, and having a free, outdoor strength, conditioning and calisthenics option is a fantastic outcome.”

Pāpāmoa Ward Councillor Steve Morris says the exercise area is a great amenity for the community.

“I’m grateful we’ve been able to install this at an easy to reach location and am pleased to see it already being well used,” Cr Morris says.

“I expect it to continue to be a popular activity for residents and visitors to Pāpāmoa this summer.”

The exercise area is located near the Pāpāmoa Beach Road and Parton Road roundabout, and connects to the recently completed Pāpāmoa shared pathway. Instructional signage for those new to exercise is being installed shortly.

Other outdoor exercise equipment in the Tauranga City network is located at Te Kio Reserve, Liston Park, Wells Ave Reserve, and Kulim Park.
