Weather event update - Saturday 28 March 2026

Following the lifting of all weather restrictions on 27 March, Tauranga City Council's Emergency Operations Centre remains active and continues to monitor the situation closely.

While conditions have improved, surface flooding remains in some areas, with ponding still present in low-lying and recreational spaces.

People are urged to take care and avoid flooded areas, including parks such as Greerton Park, where pooling water has been observed.

Please keep children and animals, including dogs, well clear of any pooled or floodwater.

Adams Avenue remains partially closed while we wait for the geotechnical assessment of the Mauao site and confirmation of when the closure may be lifted. We will advise as soon as possible after receiving this advice.

If you spot signs of a landslide:

  • Keep clear of the area.
  • If you feel unsafe, self-evacuate immediately. If you need further help, or you need to report an incident, call us on 07 577 7000. We can provide emergency accommodation and wellbeing support.
  • If there’s an immediate danger, call 111.

Learn about the warning signs.

For the latest information on park closures, please see closure updates.
